Limited Travel through Glenwood Canyon

One Lane Open for Travel 4pm - 9am When Safe

Update #4, 2/23/16

Glenwood Canyon has been reopened by Colorado Department of Transportation on an extremely limited basis. The current plan implemented by CDOT is to open one lane of traffic from 4 PM to 9 AM, with a pilot car guiding cars in one direction at a time. The Canyon is closed to all traffic between 9 AM and 4 PM daily to allow for repair of the road, which is estimated to cost around $5 million dollars. Travel through the Canyon, which usually is 30 minutes, is ranging between 2 - 5 hours. There is an alternate route and it adds about 5 hours to travel to the Airport from Glenwood Springs.

Colorado Mountain Express has been working to restore service in this continually changing situation. The current plan is to run shuttle service in the early morning and late afternoon when the Canyon is open, pending the decision of Colorado Department of Transportation, and will provide service between Glenwood Springs, Snowmass and Aspen and Denver International Airport. Please call 970-754-7433 to confirm the current schedule.

  • Shuttles are scheduled to Denver International Airport and shuttles are scheduled from Denver International Airport. Travel time can be up to 10 - 11 hours, depending on traffic and pilot car speed. Early morning trips are tending to go more quickly through the Canyon than those between 4pm and 11pm.
  • Shuttle will travel to Eagle - Vail Airport in the morning, and it will return when the Glenwood Canyon opens in the evening.
  • These shuttles are tentatively scheduled; they are dependent on Colorado Department of Transportation opening the road and declaring it safe for travel

CME is not using the detour route, which adds over 200 miles to the trip. Regulatory hours of service requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators limit ability to operate this the alternate route.
