Spring in the Rockies

Posted On: 03/25/2015

Spring weather is unpredictable. Most think of tornadoes, flooding, thunderstorms - and snowstorms in Colorado. In the blink of an eye, the mountain roads in Colorado can turn for the worst. This morning, I-70 westbound was closed due to multi-vehicles accidents. The warm, dry weather of the past weeks has been replaced by a spring snowstorm. Please remember to check road conditions on CoTrip.org and weather reports.

If you have to drive, follow these guidelines for a safe journey:

  • Carry extra windshield wiper fluid
  • Give snowplow drivers extra room
  • Slow down! Roads and bridges can be slippery
  • Don’t use cruise control when traveling in winter conditions
  • Carry an ice scraper, snow brush, coat, hat, gloves, blanket, first aid kit, flashlight, tire chains, matches, water, and nonperishable food
  • Make sure your tires have good tread

CME's driver training program consists of 40 hours in the classroom and on the road. Our drivers are experienced mountain drivers who can do the driving for you! Start your trip off right and let us do the driving.
