Posted On: 08/29/2022

Resort opening dates with 2022-23 ski and ride season have been announced. It all kicks off in October at Keystone Resort. The exact opening date depends on snowmaking, overnight temperatures and natural snowfall, but Keystone will be among the first to start running lifts, thanks to its state-of-the-art, energy-efficient snowmaking system. Keystone’s neighbor in Summit County, Breckenridge, opens on November 11, and with plans for skiing and riding to continue into May, will be one of the longest seasons in North America. Vail Mountain, celebrating its 60th Year this season, will also open on November 11, 2022. Beaver Creek and Crested Butte follow, with planned opening date of November 23, 2022.

The planned opening dates for Colorado Resorts, which are subject to change based on weather and conditions, include:

  • Mid-Oct.: Keystone (CO)
  • Nov. 11: Breckenridge (CO), Vail (CO)
  • Nov. 14: Copper Mountain (CO)
  • Nov. 23: Beaver Creek (CO), Crested Butte (CO)

Colorado skiers and snowboarders might get lucky this 2022-23 ski season with above-average snowfall. This is based on one of the key climate factors meteorologists monitor to predict snowfall…the cool surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. This phenomenon, known as La Nina, usually means good to great snow for the Colorado Rockies. The last time there was a La Nina was in 2010, when Colorado ski resorts saw above average snowfall.
